State Farm Scholar Athletes
This year, State Farm is proud to showcase an exemplary scholar-athlete at
every State Farm Lone Star Showdown Event. State Farm awards the largest
athletic scholarship in Texas given on a statewide basis, having awarded
over $87,000 in the past five years. The following scholar-athletes were
honored at this year's State Farm Lone Star Showdown events.

Major: Pre-Med
Tennis

Jon, a senior member of the Longhorns' Big 12 Champion men's tennis team, will pursue a career in medicine upon graduation.

Loryn Johnson
University of Texas
Senior- Alvin
Major: Health Promotion
Softball
|
Loryn, a senior infielder for the Longhorns, is a two-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Elze Potgieter
Texas A&M University
Senior- Bloemfontein, South Africa
Major: Accounting
Tennis

Elze, who plays #1 singles for the Aggies, will graduate with both a bachelor's degree and a Masters in May.

Michael Wacha
Texas A&M University
Freshman- Texarkana
Major: Undeclared

Wacha, who has yet to declare a major, was a member of the National Honor Society as well as an Academic All-State selection while at Pleasant Grove HS.

Kendal Carrillo

Carrillo, a junior from Sweetwater, has been named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll and will earn his degree in Accounting this May.

Orsak, a sophomore utility player who led the Aggies in stolen bases last year as a freshman, was an Academic All-State selection in high school at Pearland.

Nathan Walkup

Walkup, who has been a solid contributor to the Aggies in his first three seasons, is a Business major who plans on working for his family's business upon graduation.

Damitria Buchanan

Buchanan, a senior from Houston's Jones High School, earned her bachelor's degree in Psychology in just three years, and is currently working toward's a master's degree in the same field.

Strange, a senior from Houston's Westside High, is a two-time team captain who has scored almost 150 total points in his first three years at the Big 12 Championships.

Dexter Pittman

Pittman has been a major force in the post for the Longhorns since arriving on campus, and has also done well in the classroom, earning Academic All-Big 12 Honors twice.

Mason, a senior guard, was named to both the Defensive All-Big 12 and 2nd Team Academic All Big-12 teams as a sophomore and a junior.

Tannehill, one of the Aggies top pass-catching threats and also back-up quarterback, was named Academic All-Big 12 as a freshman in 2008. He plans on attending Medical School upon graduation.

Adrienne Woods

Woods has contributed from the moment she stepped on campus, specializing in freestyle and the backstroke. She has also twice been named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Rachel Shipley

Shipley, a midfielder who was selected as the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week as a sophomore in 2008, was also selected to the Academic All-Big team.

Jennifer Banse

Senior- San Antonio
Major: Allied Health
Volleyball

Banse was named the Big 12's Most Improved Player as a sophomore in 2007. She has also been named 2nd Team Academic All-Big 12 and is on track to graduate in May before going into Nursing.

Heather Kisner

Kisner, who set a Texas single-season record for digs with 488 in 2008, has been named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll six times and Academic All-Big 12 twice.
